School during the coronavirus pandemic

We have now been in lockdown for more than six weeks, during which time there have been no lessons in schools. The impact of these six weeks is very clearly visible in the schools. Where countless feet would normally be walking across the school playground and along the pavements, plants are now taking over. Even the classrooms, usually bustling with pupils, have stood empty and deserted for six weeks.

However, this does not mean that pupils and teachers have done nothing during these six weeks. In many schools, lessons have continued since the first week of lockdown, albeit in a different way.

Teachers prepared school assignments, which were then sent to parents via smartphone. Pupils then complete these assignments at home under their parents’ supervision. Depending on the task, the work is either sent back to the teacher or kept until we return to school at some point.

These unusual circumstances present a particular challenge for us all, one that we must rise to. Above all, however, it is the parents who are most affected, as they now have to supervise their children’s schoolwork at home. For families with several children in different year groups, this is quite a mammoth task. But, trusting in the Lord, we will overcome this challenge together.
