Education is a key area of work in all Mennonite colonies. It is at school that the foundations for pupils’ future lives are laid. It is important that these foundations are solid and enable pupils to work independently. A firm foundation must also be laid in basic skills such as reading, writing and arithmetic.
School is also a vital part of the congregation, as it is from the school that future congregation members are drawn. It is therefore important to instil the faith in children at school from an early age, thereby giving them a sound foundation for shaping their lives according to the Bible.
Unfortunately, the situation in schools in many settlements is not ideal, as there is a shortage of qualified teachers. This is where Bolivienhilfe supports the settlements by providing teachers. Some of these teachers are young people from Germany who have completed their schooling and are spending a year in missionary service.
