Schoolwork at ‘La Gracia’

‘Do whatever your hand finds to do, for God is with you!
’ 1 Samuel 10:7

More than seven weeks ago, I left the city of Santa Cruz – due to the announced lockdown – and travelled to La Gracia. I was able to spend the first two weeks here with Nelly, but then she had to fly back to Germany on the evacuation flight. So I found myself facing a completely new and unexpected situation. What should I do now? How wonderful it is to know a God who has already prepared everything.

During my first few weeks in Bolivia, I’d already got a taste of what it’s like to be a teacher, and here in La Gracia I was able to take over Nelly’s role as a teacher and began teaching the children in groups of families. As there are only six pupils in total from three different families attending school here, it was manageable and easy to organise. Now the children come to me on different days for two lessons, and they are given homework for the days they spend at home. I am very grateful for the support from the families, as they help the children with their homework, enabling them to continue learning despite the lockdown.

In the afternoons, I can then prepare my lessons and study for Bible school myself. As well as my school duties, I’ve started a discipleship course with a girl from the youth group and we’re currently meeting once a week. In the Kingdom of God, there’s always work to be done, no matter where you are, no matter the time or the circumstances. Even in these times of coronavirus, we remain in the Lord’s service and there’s plenty of work to be done.
