Flute Course School, ‘Chihuahua’ Colony

After Maria Klaassen had started playing the flute in her school music lessons at the ‘Campo Chihuahua’ settlement, it became apparent that quite a few pupils were interested in playing the flute.

So, starting today, a voluntary flute course has been offered every Tuesday afternoon, for which all children in Years 3 to 6 could sign up. At the first session, 16 pupils attended, some of whom had already learnt to play the flute with Maria Klaassen in music lessons. These pupils were then supervised by Daniela and Lea Klaassen in an ‘advanced group’, whilst the others started with the basics under Maria’s guidance.

Playing musical instruments is highly valued by families here in the colony. As a result, the children learn to play various instruments such as the violin, piano, guitar and so on.

The recorder course is an ideal way to practise the basics of reading music on an instrument that is easy to learn, such as the recorder.

The children really enjoy making music. They practise the recorder diligently during break times and cheerfully carry on playing in the car park whilst waiting for their parents.
