Schoolwork in the Hohenau colony

About a month after my arrival in Bolivia, the coronavirus crisis began here too. At the time, I would never have thought it would reach such proportions. Fortunately, the changes here in the colony are not as severe as in the city, but even here, a great deal has changed.

First, school lessons were cancelled, followed shortly afterwards by church services and other events at the church. As nobody knew how long the closure would last, we had only set the pupils homework for a few days. When it then became clear that the closure would last a little longer, we teachers gave the pupils new assignments once a week.

As we were no longer able to hold church services, we as a congregation moved our gatherings to people’s homes. We held Bible study sessions in small groups twice a week, which allowed us to continue enjoying fellowship amongst believers.
